Special Palin edition of the Village Voice's "Rightbloggers" regular snark fest.
Roy Edroso is funny.
That photoshopped image looks familiar.
Think I could seed some of the galleries from that site? out.

As long as I get to disavow any knowledge of your action.
Jim Geraghty "reports":
Palin is departing the national political scene. But that does not discount a comeback, as a quite different figure, at some far-off date. She quoted Douglas MacArthur in her resignation announcement, referring to "not retreating, but advancing in another direction." But the words most associated with Douglas MacArthur in American minds are "I shall return."

Well, it was actually Marine Major General Oliver Smith who said: "Retreat Hell! We're attacking in another direction", this after glamorpuss MacArthur and his sycophant Ned Almond hung Smith and his 1st Marines out at the Chosin Reservoir knuckleheads. More faulty reporting around Palin, funny how that keeps happening.
Smith getting his forces out intact from the biggest trap in world history is one of the all-time great feats of American arms, and it was critically necessary. Thank you, Chosin Frozen, and all your comrades for saving the world (which by your sacrifice you did).
Sarah Palin is no O.P. Smith, but she may be a Douglas MacArthur megalomaniacal diva backstabber, for sure.
Actually when I think about it it was regimental commander Chesty Puller who uttered the famous words.
nasty:
I must say, slightly off topic, what a pleasure and relief it is to see somebody tag MacArthur for the lunatic he really was. Don't hear it very often. And on the 4th of July!
tag MacArthur for the lunatic he really was
MacArthur, Monty and Patton. What a cool group of WW2 egomaniacs. Throw in Vlad the Impaler and you've got enough for a couple sets of doubles. Might get a little bloody figuring out who gets to serve first.
Veering way off-topic here... but please don't badmouth my man George S Patton! Tho' at least you put Monty's name between his and MacArthur's, still: I don't like them mentioned on the same day.
The quote referenced above is often rendered: "Retreat? Hell, we're attacking in a different direction." The remark is considered apocryphal the sentiment is attributed to O P Smith.
The truth has a way of evaporating around Sarah Palin, I don't know why. Check this flatly untrue assertion by the unsympathic writer at Vanity Fair:
Palin was able to increase the annual distribution from the state’s Permanent Fund to about $3,000 per resident, almost double the amount received the previous year. She could be a fiscal conservative and a big spender all at the same time.

This is simply not true. There is an extra check she gave out last year- a one-time deal called the Alaska Resource Rebate, but the above is just a wrong portrayal of the situation; its only relationship to the Permanent Fund Dividend is that PFD eligibility was used to determine ARR eligibility- and the checks were mailed together.
The writer seems to think the Permanent Fund Dividend is reliant on oil prices, but that's not the case; it's invested in the stock market and rises and falls with the Dow Jones, and has since its inception in 1982.

"Some are going to question the timing of this and let me just say that this decision has been in the works for a while. In fact this decision comes after much consideration," Palin said, holding up her left index finger as she amended her thought, "Much prayer and consideration. And finally, I polled the most important people in my life, my kids. And the count was unanimous. While in response to asking, 'Hey, do you want me to be a positive influence and fight for all our children's futures from outside the governor's office?' it was four yeses and one 'Hell, yeah.' The 'Hell, yeah' sold it." (emphasis added)
Does that mean little Trig voted too? Is this kind of tally what we can look for in a future election?
