Curt Schilling on Iraq and Bush

advertisement

First of two Schilling seeds today. I posted it to the politics category and tagged it to Bush and Iraq because starting at 19:34 of this segment the hosts start needling Schilling and themselves about Iraq. The subsequent conversation is incredible--listen to the tone in Curt's voice as he talks about having voted for Bush. I was driving to work on what passes for a country road in Greater Boston and damn near hit the shoulder I was laughing so hard.

Opponents of Bush will find themselves amused. Supporters of Bush will no doubt hear a kindred spirit. Something for everyone.

However, this was also Schilling's first public comments after he trashed Barry Bonds last month, and the bulk of the interview and the first part is devoted to that subject, so I tagged it there, too.

What's this?
Who's leading the conversation?
This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

The day after a game Schilling usually does a post-game blog entry on his performance, but it's not up yet, so I'll seed that to sports and the baseball group when it comes up.

I hope he says he'll NEVER shake off Varitek again!!!

From what I understand he shook off Varitek six times. The last one was the only one that was a problem.

Curt was pretty impressive. Good to hear a sports figure speak not only in sentences, but also in paragraphs. And yeah, he was more than a little defensive about supporting dubya, but he had his lines down.

After hearing him speak extemporaneously, I'd say he does write his own stuff on his blog.

Curt was pretty impressive.

Interesting take.

I really like Curt even though I actually cannot think of a single issue in the whole wide world we agree on except that the New York Yankees are scum. He seems like a stand-up guy even if his politics are crud. And Lord can he be an @!$%#. But I still like him.

There are many folks in sports and Hollywood who I have mixed feelings about....as much as one can have feelings about people you don't really know.

For instance, Ben Affleck was on Maher a couple of weeks ago and also on Hardball last night. I don't think much of him as an actor and his predicaments with J-Lo and others turned him into a cartoon character and late night joke fodder.

But hearing him on those talk/gab shows has changed my impression of him. Of course, he's a lib and I generally agree with his issues, but he was incredibly articulate AND well-reasoned in his answers to specific questions regarding not only politics, but also other topics de jour. His analysis of the Republican candidates I found to be remarkably sharp, but non-partisan. As for the Dems, he's an Obama man, so everything is tinged with Barak-colored glasses.

But to get back to Curt, even though he's wrong about just about everything going on in America, I respect his positions as he seems to have actually thought about it and not just picked it up at the local talking-points checkout line.

I just caught the very, very end where he says "My wife was hoping for a nice, invisible interview this week." It was also funny the way he implied, "Yeah, I know the difference between Sunni and Shia, but all you two dolts need to know is ....."

I met Affleck the same day I met Kerry and Edwards the day after the Dem Convention in '04.

Met. Right. Affleck blew past me at the front of the rope line. I did get Kerry's and Edwards' autograph, though.

After the '04 election, I got a machine-signed picture of George and Laura at the ranch in Crawford thanking me for all my tireless work and contributions.

I'm thinking my RW brother-in-law pranked me with a small check in my name.

I got a call from the RNC looking for money not long ago.

I just laughed. And laughed.

Jonesy:

I sent you a "friend" invite just a few days after you re-activated you Newsvine involvement because you seeded that New Yorker profile of Manny Ramirez

No comment on Barry Bonds?

Curt Schilling?

I meant to read that piece...I kept that magazine it was in just to do so. Manny always seems to be in his own gentle cloud, but I kinda like that.

Barry makes my head hurt. The SF fog takes up less volume here than his ego.

And Schilling, well--I'm an A's fan :0

Didn't GQ magazine reported that Schilling used fake blood on his sock during the 2004 ALCS?

No wonder he supports bush - they are of the same kindred spirit. :-)
